The integration of MR imaging in Radiation Therapy facilitates real-time motion management and Real-Time On-Table Adaptive Radiotherapy (ROAR). CIRS was the first manufacturer to work with Viewray in the development of an MR motion phantom. The CIRS Model 008Z is based on that experience and additional inputs from Viewray engineers. The phantom is MR Safe and artifact-free via the use of piezoelectric motors and non-ferromagnetic materials. The phantom provides independently programmable rotation and linear motions to an interchangeable cylindrical insert. Inserts contain irregular-shaped targets of different sizes which receive ionization chambers for dosimetry. The body represents a heterogenous background due to simulated lungs, liver, kidney, and spine. The simulated organs are anatomical in shape and have a life-like spatial relationship. They are filled with gels that provide contrast in CT and MR. Cavities for ionization chambers are present in the liver, kidney, spine, and moving tumor. Motion Control software calculates Beam Latency specific to hybrid MRI-Linac systems without the need for an external oscilloscope which may introduce additional latencies. Patent # US 7,151,253 B2
